Edition 2 is at FDIS (Sep 2026). The current Ed. 1.0 remains in force until it publishes. The IEC 63285 series (dedicated storage converter safety) is under preparation but has not published.

What it covers

The general safety standard for power conversion equipment in photovoltaic systems — and, by extension, the one most often cited for BESS PCS safety in IEC-aligned markets. It covers protection against electric shock, energy hazards, fire, mechanical and thermal risks for converters up to 1500 V DC and 1000 V AC. Applied to storage converters in practice until the dedicated IEC 63285 series takes over.
