What it covers
Covers the engineered means of preventing a combustible atmosphere from igniting or of limiting the consequences if it does. For battery storage the relevant path is usually gas detection paired with mechanical ventilation, used to keep flammable off-gas from a failing cell below a concentration that could support deflagration. NFPA 855 reaches this standard when explosion prevention is chosen over deflagration venting.
