VPP (Virtual Power Plant)

A network of distributed energy resources — including BESS, solar PV, wind, and demand-side assets — coordinated by a central software platform to operate as a single dispatchable power plant.

Behind-the-meter BESS units are commonly aggregated into VPPs to reach the minimum bid size required for participation in wholesale and ancillary service markets. The VPP platform dispatches each individual battery within its operating constraints (SoC limits, warranty cycling budget) while presenting a single aggregated response to the grid operator or market.
