PCS (Power Conversion System)

Also known as: Power Inverter, Battery Inverter, Bidirectional Inverter

The power electronics system that converts energy between AC and DC, enabling the BESS to charge from and discharge to the AC grid. Controls active and reactive power output and handles grid-side protection.

In energy storage

PCS units are sized in MW and paired with DC blocks. A 100 MW plant may use multiple PCS units in parallel. Key specifications include rated power, efficiency, reactive power capability, and whether it supports grid-forming or grid-following operation.
