Ownership of a BESS plant is typically held through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in project-financed structures. The asset owner holds the contractual relationships — O&M agreement, OEM warranties, insurance policies, grid connection agreement, and route-to-market contracts — and bears the risk if any of these underperform. Day-to-day technical and commercial management is usually delegated to an asset manager.
