RTM (Route-to-Market)
Also known as: Energy Trader, Optimiser
A company that connects BESS assets to energy markets, manages dispatch optimisation, and handles trading relationships with grid operators and exchanges.
In energy storage
RTM providers typically operate under a revenue-share model (e.g. 10–20% of gross revenue), a tolling agreement (fixed monthly payment for dispatch rights), or a floor-price contract (guaranteed minimum with a higher share above the floor). The RTM provider's optimisation algorithm decides which market to dispatch into on a minute-by-minute basis — balancing wholesale arbitrage, ancillary services, and capacity obligations against the battery's SoC and degradation budget.
