Commissioning

The process of progressively energising and testing a BESS plant after construction, subsystem by subsystem. Culminates in the Site Acceptance Test (SAT), which marks the formal handover from EPC contractor to asset owner.

In energy storage

Commissioning typically follows a sequence: DC block energisation and BMS verification, PCS testing (including grid-forming or grid-following mode validation), HVAC and fire safety system checks, SCADA/EMS integration, and finally the full-system SAT. The EPC contractor leads commissioning, but the owner's engineer and O&M team should witness key tests to ensure the plant matches the design specification.
