COD (Commercial Operation Date)

The date on which a BESS plant officially begins commercial operation — typically following successful SAT completion. A key contractual, financial, and regulatory milestone.

COD is the contractual trigger for revenue obligations, debt service, and warranty periods to begin. Achieving COD typically requires completed SAT, grid code compliance certification, metering approval, and formal acceptance by the asset owner — delays push back revenue start and can trigger liquidated damages under the EPC contract.
