Edition 2 is at CDV stage with a 2026 target, so the current edition may be superseded later this year.

What it covers

The performance counterpart to IEC 62619. Where 62619 tests whether a cell or battery is safe under abuse conditions, this standard characterizes how it performs under normal service: rated capacity, discharge at temperature extremes, charge retention after storage, cycle life, and internal resistance. A specification that names 62619 for safety usually names 62620 for performance alongside it.
