Bankability
Also known as: Investability
The degree to which a BESS project's equipment, contracts, revenue projections, and counterparties are credible enough to support debt financing from banks and institutional lenders.
In energy storage
Lenders assess BESS bankability across technology risk (cell chemistry, OEM track record, warranty terms), revenue risk (contracted vs. merchant share, route-to-market strategy), and counterparty risk (EPC, O&M, and offtaker creditworthiness). A typical lender requirement is that at least 50–60% of projected revenue is contracted or supported by a floor mechanism, with the remainder modelled under conservative merchant assumptions.
